馬修 – a very talented man

We have just discovered this brilliant – and very unassuming – Taiwanese amateur artist through our Cuní Encaustics colleagues in Taipei. He wants to be known simply as 馬修 (Matthew to you and me) and specializes in moody urban landscapes. In his own words: ‘I walk the streets, watch, listen, think.’ He uses Cuní’s water soluble encaustic for his works, frequently combining it with different mediums, like charcoal in this case.

This is what he had to say about our beloved ancient paint medium (we left his comment in its original form):

The beauty of reality and imagination in Cuni Painting is beyond my expextation. Cuni has its own charactors, but easy to work with other materials, even with oil of turpentine or the resin. Cuni can easy work with water to show the transparency, just like the watercolor, but higher color saturation.
On the other hand, Cuni is also easy to create the thickness of texture. If we want to have those different painting techiques in the same painting, Cuni would be the better choice for everyone.

We couldn’t have put it any better, Matthew! ?
