A really interesting article has been published in the Heritage Science Journal. José Cuní has fought relentlessly since the 70s to prove that most ancient Roman murals have been falsely classified as frescos when indeed they were painted with water solube encaustic. After having his finding validated only 4 years ago by the Royal Society of Chemistry his son has now published a further article in the Heritage Science Journal that should shake the art world even a bit more – bearing in mind that many jewels of the Antique are being ‘restored’ as frescos using a technique that is ultimately damaging them rather then restoring them. If you are interested in art history and specifically Roman Wall Painting, this article is a MUST READ: https://heritagesciencejournal.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40494-016-0111-4.
